For
over 23 years, Austin-area patients, families, physicians, and
professional caregivers have called on Jaron L. Winston, M.D., for his
compassion and vast knowledge in the field of Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr.
Winston graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977.
He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science
Center in Houston in 1981. He then completed a fellowship in Community
Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, practicing both internal
medicine and pediatrics. He received his post-graduate training in psychiatry
at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut, and the University of
Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Board-certified
in Geriatric and General Psychiatry, Dr. Winston served for many years as
Medical Director of Geriatric Services at St. David’s Pavilion. He
often lectures and consults locally and nationally on the treatment of
Alzheimer’s disease and other psychiatric disorders in older adults.
Dr. Winston
founded Senior Adults Specialty Healthcare, P.A., in 1997. He also has a
research division which is called Senior Adults Specialty Research. Dr.
Winston and his staff are conducting clinical trials for groundbreaking new

Dr. Winston:
Dr. McColl joined
the staff at SASH in 2001. He is
board certified in adult psychiatry and oversees the psychiatric care of
elderly individuals at over 40 nursing home, assisted living, and personal
care facilities in and around Austin.
Dr. McColl also serves as the medical director at the Seton Heritage
Intensive Outpatient Program for older adults in Luling, Texas. Dr. McColl has
experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of adult
psychiatric conditions, including Alzheimer’s and other dementias,
major depression, anxiety disorders, adult attention deficit disorder,
schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among others. He is also available for competency
and guardianship evaluations.
Thomas Van Horn, P.A.-C,
LPC, is a
Board Certified physician assistant. He graduated from The University
of Texas Medical in 1974 and
received a Faculty Award for
Clinical Excellence. After practicing Family Medicine for 5 years he switched
specialties. He has practiced psychiatry since 1979 and has specialized
in Geriatric Psychiatry since 1993. He obtained a Master Degree in Behavioral
Science from The University of Houston Clear Lake, in 1985. Mr. Van Horn sees
patients in the office and also goes to numerous nursing homes, assisted
living facilities, and Alzheimer’s Units.
Laura Lande Eisenberg,R.N., FNP-C, QMRP, is a Family Nurse Practitioner.
She has worked in both public and private mental health services for
approximately 25 years. Her education includes a Bachelors of Psychology and
Social Work, Bachelors of Science in Child Development, Bachelors of Science
in Nursing, and a Masters of Science in Nursing, all from the University of
Texas. She has been working exclusively in geriatrics over the last five
years.
Cherie
Simpson, RN CNS is
a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Holistic Adult Health and a graduate of the
University Of Texas School Of Nursing. She has worked with Senior Adults
Specialty Healthcare and Research for over 5 years and prior to becoming a
nurse worked as a Physical
Therapist for 20 yrs predominantly with geriatric populations. She is
currently a doctoral candidate in nursing at the University of Texas and her
area of research is health promotion in family caregivers of dementia
patients.
Rosemary
Ramsey, LMSW-ACP, is a therapist and certified case manager specializing in the
treatment of depression, anxiety, crisis intervention, program development,
and community education. She has extensive experience in linking patients with
community resources and coordinating care.
Laurie Ochoa, LMSW-ACP, has 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and grief and loss issues. She offers case management services and supportive counseling to meet the needs of the family.
Sherry Key, LCSW A therapist since 1995, she has worked exclusively with older adults and families focusing on treatment of mooddisorders, anxiety, loss and adaptation to change. She has managed a hospital outpatient treatment program for older adults and serves as an Alzheimer's Association volunteer.
Mary Jan Treadwell, LCSW, has worked in the Austin medical/psychiatric field since 1983 in various settings including hospitals and day programs. She has been a therapist since 1996 specializing in a geriatric clientele and their families. Her special interests lie in medical illness relating to emotional health and grief and loss issues. She served for many years as a board member with the Austin Coalition for End-of-Life Care and with the Alzheimer’s Association as a volunteer caregiver support group facilitator. Mary Jan is also available to function as a case manager for community resource linkage and coordination of patient care.
